Admissions

Introduction

We know that choosing the right school for your child can be a stressful process and we want you to feel confident and assured when applying for a place at King’s Oak Primary School. This website may be able to answer some of your questions, but we recommend that you visit the school to get a true feel for what we offer and ask as many questions as you wish. To arrange your visit, please contact Mrs Hinkley, Office Manager and Headteacher’s PA on 01234 220480.

Here is a summary of what you may need to know:

Nursery:

We accept children into our Nursery from as early as the term following their second birthday on a part time basis 15 hours per week for funded 2 year olds.  All 3 and 4 year olds are currently funded for 15 hours per week by the government.  We also offer 30 hours for eligible families.  Places are all subject to an application to the school and availability.

Reception:

Children starting Reception in the summer after their 4th birthday will be admitted to one of our four Reception classes in the Oak building.  Reception has capacity for 30 children per class. Admissions to Reception Year is decided by Bedford Borough Council using the following:

The local authority will apply the following criteria to decide the order in which places will be allocated when there are more requests from parents than the number of places available:

1. All ‘looked after’ children or children who were previously 'looked after', including looked after children from outside of England (see definitions)

2. Pupils living in the catchment area with siblings at the school (see definition of sibling)

3. Other pupils living in the catchment area

4. Other siblings (see definition of sibling)

5.Any other children

A place in Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception.  The Bedford Borough application process must be followed.

For this year’s deadlines please check the Bedford Borough admissions website https://www.bedford.gov.uk/education_and_learning/schools_and_colleges/school_admissions.aspx.

In year admission:

In year admissions to the Reception year through to Year 6 are decided by the local authority.

Reception to Year 6 has capacity of four classes per year group, containing up to 30 children in each class.
